The Boss has the worst sleep habits for an eight month old. The only way she falls asleep is at my breast, whether it’s for a nap or for the night, and no matter if she’s hungry or not.
To make matters worse, she wakes nearly every hour during the night. With no concept of how to self-soothe, she cries until a teat lands in her mouth. She may not even suck—it’s enough to have it resting on her tongue to cue her back to sleep.
In an attempt to improve her overnight habits as well as her quality of life during the day, I’m going to Ferberize her. The method involves letting The Boss cry a little, then reassuring her a little, and then more crying. Lather, rinse, repeat until The Boss has figured a way to soothe herself to sleep.
At this point, I have the resolve to let her cry. I’ve seen how her poor sleep habits burden her days with catch-up naps. This must be done.
The challenge will be holding Ron together. He’s a softie for The Boss.
